Owner, consultant and interim manager
Utrecht Area, Netherlands
Wout Ritzema in ten words? Independent energetic consultant and co-creator of attractive brands and places.

In more words? Wout Ritzema is an experienced, independent, creative consultant and interim manager, specialized in transforming inner city locations into upgraded, optimized, safe and attractive places. Wout lives and works in the city of Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Starting with his master in Urban Geography and a thesis in public private partnership in area regeneration (Utrecht University/Middlesex University London) in 1992 his key focus over the past 25 years has been improving and transforming unattractive station areas, rundown urban neighborhoods, old & vacant shopping centers and congested public squares - and empower the public and private organizations involved.

Wout is renowned for his creative solutions for complex issues, always with a human touch - the ultimate experience and positive perception of both the co-creating parties and the end user is always his goal. With his organizational, place making and place branding & positioning skills at strategic and tactical level, he has the ability to create, activate and transform non functioning brands, places and spaces into attractive ones.

He was process manager of many urban & station redevelopment and public square & bicycle parking improvement projects in e.g. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Tilburg and Zaandam commissioned by the city councils, the Dutch Railways (NS), ProRail and RoyalHaskoningDHV.

Earlier, Wout was part of different development teams of nationwide guidelines on area improvements and transformations. E.g. the ‘Keurmerk Veilig Ondernemen’ (Safety & Security Quality Mark) for improving shopping and business centres in The Netherlands.
He also developed ‘The Circle of Five’, a magic recipe concept for attractive and healthy locations for RoyalHaskoningDHV/NPC.
And recently, he was responsible for the development of the Toolkit Routing, Signing and Branding which is now part of ‘Het Spoorbeeld’ (Design Guidelines for Train Stations) in The Netherlands.

Wout just finished an interesting project for Schiphol Area Development Company, helping the organization and its nine business parks in the Schiphol Amsterdam Airport region with a better positioning.

He loves to expanding his network with interesting place makers, being inspired by ideas & concepts and finding new place making opportunities to contribute to.
