Pieter studied Psychology (M.A.) at the Groningen University and specialised in experimental psychology on perception, learning and cognition. These subjects were applied to road user behaviour. Presently Pieter is researcher and consultant of Knowledge Centre Shared Space at NHL University of Applied Sciences. In addition he is module-leader of the Master Course for European Traffic and Transportation, within a consortium of 6 European Universities. Prior tot this engagement, Pieter served as a visiting lecturer at he Nottingham Trent University (UK) and Hassel University (Belgium), where he taught courses on Psychology and road user behaviour, quality of public space and research methodology. Previously, Pieter was professor and the Chair of Traffic Engineering program at NHL University. Nowadays Pieter is involved in research, article writing and consultancy on the topic of Shared Space. Pieter does consultancies for (local) authorities and is involved as (key-note) speaker for presentations and workshops at conferences and meetings in Europe and outside Europe.
