Luisa Bravo

Luisa Bravo is an academic scholar, she has taught, researched and lectured in Europe, the United States, Lebanon, Asia and Australia. She is currently Adjunct Associate Professor at the Queensland University of Technology, School of Design (Australia) and Adjunct Professor at the University of Florence, School of Architecture (Italy).
Luisa’s research and teaching focuses on public space, both on the understanding of the theoretical concept and on the design of physical places, with a multidisciplinary and sensitive, context-based approach.
With the non-profit organization City Space Architecture, based in Italy, which she founded in 2013 and is currently leading as President, she has been curating several projects aimed at promoting public space culture, engaging also artists, especially photographers and film-makers, in the process, working in collaboration with several Universities and institutions worldwide.
Luisa was the Chair of the first ‘Past Present and Future of Public Space’ international conference on Art, Architecture and Urban Design held in Bologna (2014) and of the second meeting of the research group by the same name, held in Venice (2016), as side event of the Venice Architecture Biennale. She is also the Scientific Coordinator of ‘MaPS. Mastering Public Space’, a collaborative research network on cities and urbanity.
Luisa is the Founding Editor and Journal Manager of The Journal of Public Space, the first, international, interdisciplinary, academic, open access journal entirely dedicated to public space, a joint effort of City Space Architecture and the Queensland University of Technology, in partnership with UN Habitat. The journal was launched in 2016 at the United Nations Habitat III conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development held in Quito (Ecuador). At the Habitat III conference Luisa coordinated two events, included in the official program of the conference, and she was also involved in a series of collateral events at the Habitat III Village.
Luisa’s lecture ‘Stand up for Public Space!’ has been recently included in the UN Habitat Global Urban Lectures series, one of the UN-Habitat’s most publicly shared online outreach initiatives.
