This daylong trip to Dordrecht, led by city psychologist Sander van der Ham, explores successful examples of engaging communities through placemaking.

Holland's oldest city, Dordrecht, is located on an island surrounded by wide rivers. Nearly 1,000 monuments and a historic inner city harbour define the atmosphere of this age-old port. Within city planning you can still feel and see the history, rooted in the long Calvanist traditions of collaboration between government and citizen and an emphasis on economic growth.

Although Dordrecht has some great examples of placemaking, recent developments have focused more on aesthetics than community. It is becoming clear that has not led to the desired results. How can residents feel engagement towards these places again?

Lunch and transportation will be provided.
