In this interactive session, attendees will learn about the Reigerbos district, and work with local stakeholders to analyze the area's challenges and opportunities.

Wednesday is market day in the Reigerbos area of Amsterdam Zuidoost, and it’s a veritable feast for the senses. Most of the locals still call it the “Bijlmer,” and this market is truly “Bijlmer’s Best!” Here, the enormous diversity of Amsterdam really shows. On other days, the neighborhood is livable, but on market days, the Bijlmer quickly moves from livable to lovable!

The market takes places at a shopping mall at the center of the Reigersbos neighborhood. The mall has plenty of amenities too: two primary schools, one secondary school, a public library, a health centre, and so on. But the entrances to the mall, the surrounding parking areas, and a few empty buildings call out for new solutions. How can lighter, quicker, cheaper placemaking help make better use of these areas?
