This daylong trip to The Hague's innovation district will explore how placemaking can cultivate new cross-sector relationships.

How can a city, with an increasingly diversified economy, use place to cultivate new relationships across sectors as different as justice and information technology? The Hague, the international city of peace and justice, has ambitions to create an innovation district within its core. Innovation districts are where anchor institutions, companies cluster and connect with start ups and others to and magnify innovation output that can be commercialized for the market.

Given the Hague’s specialisation in governance, peace and justice along with emerging clusters in cybersecurity and IT, participants in this session will tour a part of the emerging innovation district, talk with people from various economic disciplines, and discuss how public places can facilitate connections between very different kinds of thinkers. Julie Wagner will introduce research on innovation districts and the centrality of place- and people-led strategies.

Lunch and transportation will be provided.
