I have worked in the urban management arena since 2002, managing marketing and communication in CIDs and UIPs. Recently we have introduced place-making as a key component of successfully enhancing public spaces in terms of structure and experience. While viewed in a positive light, it has been taken as a "nice to have" and as such we face the continual challenge of convincing private and government sectors that this part of the process is as valuable as operations is and should be built in to the urban management plan from the outset.
